Joomla extensions worth checking out

April 8th, 2010

Here we are again, talking about new extensions. Well, a lot of these extensions are very useful although some might be a notch too costly for some people. However, Joomla has its fair share of commercial and free extensions and all of them are worth to look at.

A simple hotel reviewing extension for Joomla websites would be HotelGuide. It is simple yet affordable (free in fact!). It is quite powerful and can go to great length. The reviews for HotelGuide have been great so far with a perfect 5 stars rating.

Annonces is a great extension for those wanting to have a bigger control over the advertisements on their website. However, this isn’t for those wanting to use Google Adsense or something like that but for those wanting to have their own advertising management for their websites.

Security is important for a high profile website and this is the same with Joomla as well. If the administrator wishes to allow a certain type of people to go to only certain places in the website, then FLEXIaccess might be a great extension to start with.

The plugins mentioned above are mostly new and all of these are powerful in their own ways as well.

Joomla website of the month M+H Architect

April 7th, 2010

There are reasons why the people behind the Joomla community choose a Joomla website of the month. It is because these websites stand out in ways other websites might not be able to do. For the month of April, M+H Architect was nominated as Joomla website of the month.

In short, M+H Architect website looks very simple and yet in managed to give out quite a handful of information about the company. There are only five main sections which are the About, Projects, Green Design, Credits and Contact. Out of all of these five sections, only three will most probably be the highlight for its visitors which are the About, Projects and Green Design page.

The design of the website has a touch of gray and black which is quite synonymous to a modern design. However, since the logo incorporates a light green color, that particular color is also used in various aspects of the website. Moreover, the thing about gray and blacks is that it blends quite well with almost all colors.

The Projects section serves much of what M+H Architect is all about: architecture and designing. That particular section acts as the site’s portfolio and it has been built in quite a nice manner as well. Subsections are used to make sure that customers can get into a more specific type of project.

All in all, M+H Architect bore quite an impressive design and it is to no surprise that it was crowned as Joomla website of the month.

YooTheme Joomla Template April 2010 – Enterprise

April 5th, 2010

For the month of April, YooTheme decided to release a theme called the Enterprise. It is a highly refreshing theme with a lot of color combinations and a lot of great features. This may be one of the best themes that YooTheme has created so far.

As a lot of people have anticipated, Enterprise was built on the ZOO 2.0 Content Application Builder which was also the highlight of the Enterprise template. However, Enterprise comes with only the basic version. Should the user wishes to use the PRO version, they will have to make an additional purchase at 99€.

Enterprise has 12 different color schemes and each of them looks very good in their own way. Although it manipulates just a tiny bit of the template, it still brings out the best out of the template and shows how versatile it can be as well.

Enterprise is available for all YooTheme members on which the cheapest is 39€. All in all, Enterprise is definitely worth the money spent.
